Our Goal Is To Create Lead-Free Communities
The Junction Coalition was selected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as the only organization in Ohio - and one of only 11 community organizations nationwide - to implement a grassroots, community-based lead poisoning prevention program. While numerous government agencies, healthcare providers, and nonprofits work tirelessly to reduce lead exposure and promote education, many families still lack access to the resources they need.
To help close this gap, the Junction Coalition started the #419GETTHELEADOUT program to connect caregivers of children 0-6 years of age in the Junction neighborhood to resources for identifying and reducing lead poisoning risks. Our goal is to ensure our children have the opportunity to grow up happy, healthy, and lead-free.
The program provides education on the effects of lead on youth development and reducing exposure through proper nutrition and safe cleaning practices. It also offers access to testing services and assistance with remediating lead hazards in paint, water lines, and soil.
Each caregiver enrolled in the 419 Lead Out is paired with a Neighborhood Navigator specializing in lead position prevention to create a customized plan for education, testing, and support for each participant.
